What it is

white paper bags, in practice

White kraft is the same construction as brown, bleached rather than natural. The difference is entirely in how ink behaves on it: no warm cast, so pastels stay pastel and a four colour image looks like the file you sent.

Smooth white is the sharper surface; ribbed white has a fine corrugation that adds texture at the cost of a little print detail. Coated board is a step further again, and is what we use when the whole panel is a photograph.

White shows marks more than brown, which is worth knowing for a bag that lives in a delivery van rather than a shop.

Questions

Before you order

+ Is white more expensive than brown kraft?
Usually slightly, because the stock is bleached. The difference is small next to the print and the handle.
+ Will a white bag stay clean?
It marks more readily than brown. A matt laminate protects it if the bag will be handled a lot.
+ Can I print edge to edge?
On machine made bags the print can run across the full panel, the gussets and the base.
